Town of Cohasset water warning

Last week Cohasset town Water Department notified residents that the latest water sample testing results violated the EPA’s maximum contamination level (MCL) for chlorine disinfectant byproducts. These byproducts are called trihalomethanes (THM). Rest assured that our systems are designed to totally remove all THMs and every other contaminant outside of fluoride in your water.

Trihalomethanes occur when chlorine interacts with what is already dissolved in the water from the source be it from a well or a reservoir. Whether it be a volatile organic compound (VOCs) or even a natural substance like ozone or decayed plant matter, these things mutate chlorine into being 1000s of times more cytotoxic than chlorine. This is why they are regulated.

One’s exposure to THMs and other toxins like PFAs and the ammonia in Boston’s and Hanover’s water is 20-100X more in the shower than drinking the water. That alone made us focus on providing healthy water in the shower. Healthy water is defined as water with all the healthy essential minerals it desires to deliver to life and no contaminants. Water softeners and reverse osmosis systems cannot provide healthy water.
